			You can integrate computers into the learning environment without sacrificing traditional classroom utility. SMARTdesks™ Sub-Surface Monitor Workstations provide the option of computer-based training (CBT) instruction while maintaining a clear worksurface for traditional classroom functions and an open line of sight between student and instructor. By mounting the monitor on a shelf under the desk top behind a glass window, the CPU in its own bay beneath the worksurface and providing a pull-out platform for the keyboard and mouse, access to a computer is maintained and a full work area is still available for other activities.
The multi-purpose sub-surface desk offers a number of distinct advantages over other configurations for certain specific applications and circumstances. Mainly, this workstation allows students the opportunity to do research and writing without having to move to a computer lab. In addition to a clear work area, the fully encased computer is less succeptable to damage, theft or abuse. All cables are concealed and conveniently routed through horizontal and vertical channels within the desk. Finally, the sub-surface configuration provides an ideal testing environment. With the CRT screen set at the correct depth and angle, total privacy is possible without walls and only a few feet of separation.
		The Convertible CPU Cabinet™, a SMARTdesks™ exclusive, is designed to accommodate either tower or desktop CPU cases so the desktop remains uncluttered with plenty of room for books and paperwork. An optional rear accesss panel is available so you never have to remove the CPUs to route wires or check connections. An adjustable shelf offers additional storage for headsets and other equipment and supplies. With smaller form CPUs, there is even room for an optional pullout shelf to support a scanner. A non-adjustable monitor is preferable in the multi-purpose classroom.
